Brockton Blonde of 16 Reigns As Miss Winnipesaukee 1938

Hazel Burbank, Meredith Summer Resident, Given Title at Weirs; Lucille Jordan Representing Indian Head Runner Up.

Miss Hazel Burbank, a pretty 16 year old blonde miss from Brockton, Mass., won the title of Miss Winnipesaukee for 1938 last night at the Winnipesaukee Gardens in the Weirs when the annual contest took place, shortly before midnight. The title last year was won by Miss Evelyn Landry of Laconia.

Miss Burbank is summering at Meredith.

Miss Lucille Jordan of Laconia, a striking brunette, who last year won the title of queen of the Sled Dog Carnival, was runner-up in the contest. She is spending the summer at Indian Head and was that resort’s entry. Both the winner and the runner-up wore bathing suits.

James Irwin, manager of the ballroom, announced the various contestants, who danced about with their partners under the spotlight to receive the applause of the crowd.

Judges were Photographer Harold J. Piper, Mrs. Alice Caron of Manchester, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dockham of Lakeport and John Hayes of New York City.
