TROY N.Y. BEAUTICIAN MISS WINNIPESAUKEE

Annual Bathing Beauty Contest Held at Weirs Gardens

Nineteen year old Miss Mildred Gardner, a beauty operator, of Troy, N.Y., was acclaimed Miss Winnipesaukee of 1940 in the bathing beauty contest last night at Irwin’s Winnipesaukee Gardens.

She has been spending a week’s vacation at the Pine Bank Lodge between the Weirs and Meredith with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Gardner. She is a brunette. This was her first entrance into a beauty contest. Her escort was Charles Canfield, also of Troy.

Runners up were Miss Dolly Fowler of Wolfeboro, Miss Mildred Barrett of Arlington, Mass., and Miss Marilyn Meehan of Jackson Heights, N.Y.

The judges were Otis Chase, Boston artist; Harold Piper, Laconia photographer; and Miss Hazel Burbank of Brockton, Mass. who was Miss Winnipesaukee of 1939. James Irwin was master of ceremonies.
