Marlene King

900 Witness 26th Annual Beauty Event at Weirs Dance Hall

Wednesday night at Irwin's Winnipesaukee Gardens one of the best Bathing Beauty contests in the 26 years they have been run was held. A pert blond from Malden, Mass., Miss Marlene King, age 17, was crowned Miss Winnipesaukee 1951.

The contest was just about as difficult to judge as any contest of this nature could be, as is evidenced by the fact that two girls tied for second place. They were tall striking brunette, Shirley Brown, from Epping, and petite brunette, Beverly Burson, of New Hyde Park, Long Island, New York. The crowd of 900 people at the Gardens cheered the 17 beautiful contestants loudly as they paraded singly and in a group across the ballroom floor.

Contestants were:

Elaine Mockringer, New Hyde Park, Long Island, N.Y.
Virginia Avallone, East Boston, Mass.
Jean Buchanan, Maiden, Mass.
Trudy Gay, Hyde Park, Mass.
Norma Barton, Roxbury, Mass.
